Johnny Marr has revealed that The Cribs are working on new material – which will be “quite different”.
The Cribs have managed to achieve massive success without compromising their principles. Effectively the same band which burst out of Wakefield all those years ago, the band now boast a notable new addition.
Top Ten album ‘Ignore The Ignorant’ contained the glistening guitar of Johnny Marr. The Smiths icon joined the band in 2008, and is now a fully paid up member of The Cribs.
Taking time off to write new material, the guitarist revealed snippets of information about the sessions. Speaking to BBC 6Music, Johnny Marr said: “The new stuff, particularly that Ryan’s coming up with is quite different. He’ll kill me if I tell you”.
“Well, Ryan’s been playing some keyboards and he’s got very inspired by it so it still sounds like the band and his lyrics are always really interesting.”
The Cribs are spread across two continents. Keeping Wakefield as their home base, the band boast members in Manchester, London and Portland.
Continuing, Johnny Marr claimed that the atmosphere in the group was “healthy” with early writing sessions already resulting in new material.
Johnny Marr recently picked up a special award at the Ivor Novellos, in recognition of his illustrious back catalogue. However the guitarist is keen to look to the future, citing a strong desire to work on new material.
“They’ve got a strong work ethic,” he added. “We all take the business of being in The Cribs very seriously and I like being around that. There’s no messing around, so we’re all excited about it.”
