The Coral’s ‘Faraway Worlds’ Has A Soulful Edge

It's taken from their new album...

The Coral has shared new song ‘Faraway Worlds’.

The band’s new album ‘Sea Of Mirrors’ will be released on September 8th, one of the final albums to be recorded at the seminal Parr Street Studios. Ever-industrious, The Coral are also planning to release a second, single-pressing, physical formats-only album on the same day – the ultra-limited ‘Holy Joe’s Coral Island Medicine Show’.

New song ‘Faraway Worlds’ is the final preview before ‘Faraway Worlds’ lands, and it seems to tap into the album’s broader themes. Lyrically, there’s a sense of enchantment, and also a longing for lost innocence, while musically it moves from psych-pop to a lush, Hazelwood-esque arrangement, via that descending chord sequence, so redolent of James Carr’s slow-burners.

Of the song James Skelly comments:

“Ian and I wrote this one together. We were trying to capture the feeling of when we were kids, creating our own worlds. Lyrically, it’s inspired by Dylan Thomas, musically by John Martyn and the more pastoral side of Pink Floyd.”

Tune in now.
