The Charlatans have vowed to stay on the road despite drummer Jon Brookes being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The Charlatans are the great survivors of British music. Outlasting numerous trends, in their two decade career the band have scored countless hits, moving from Hammond washed Mod pop to alt country balladry.
However last week the band were plunged into crisis. Drummer Jon Brookes collapsed onstage in Philadelphia, with the musician having reportedly stopped breathing. Taken to hospital, the drummer was then flown to the United Kingdom. Undergoing treatment, Jon Brookes remains in hospital care.
As a result of the incident The Charlatans were forced to abandon their Stateside tour. Now the band have revealed that new tests have revealed that Jon Brookes is suffering from a brain tumour.
A statement from the band’s camp explained: “The Charlatans drummer Jon Brookes is currently undergoing treatment in the UK for a brain tumour following the postponement of the remaining dates of Charlatans North American tour.”
“The Charlatans touring schedule remains unaltered whilst the band arrange for a short term replacement. The band and Jon would like to thank all well wishers for their kind messages of support.”
The group seem to be determined to fulfil their UK tour schedule, which is set to open on October 5th. Running across the country, the lengthy series of shows comes to an end in Birmingham on October 23rd.
Determined to complete these dates, tickets for all shows are on sale now.
