The Amazons will release their new album ’21st Century Fiction’ on May 9th.
The band are closing one chapter, and opening another – saying ‘farewell’ to their 20s, they’re ready to embrace adulthood, maturity, and their 30s.
’21st Century Fiction’ finds the band opening out their creative processes, working with a slew of guests. Produced in Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in Wiltshire, Chapel Lane Studios in Hereford and The Retreat in Brighton, production comes from Matthew Thomson, Chris Alderton and Elliot Briggs.
Royal Blood contribute, alongside Pete Hutchings, and the mighty Catherine Marks – a fine solo artist, producer, and of course a Manic Street Preachers collaborators.
The record “comes from the frustration of being in that place where my 20s were ending and being really cognisant of that,” says singer Matthew Thomson. The lyrics dial into that spot where the adolescent dream collapses under “self-flagellation; always wondering what’s around the corner, always scolding myself for not matching up to some unattainable ideals of what it means to be a successful band or even just a man.”
Take new single ‘Pitch Black’ – a song about the pressures on young men to conform with society’s ideals of what a ‘real man’ should be, it’s lyrically astute without sacrificing the precocious energy that made Amazons so beloved.
Tune in now.
