Glasgow may have scrubbed up a little, but the city's ragged edges are still plain for all to see.
It's these elements that seem to attract The Amazing Snakeheads. Raw, unkempt rock 'n' roll delivered with a glint in its eye and a dagger in its teeth, the band exploded out of Glasgow last year.
Snapped up by Domino, debut album 'Amphetamine Ballads' is set to be released on April 14th. Recorded at night time at The Green Door Studio in Glasgow, the track titles alone explore its subterranean themes: take 'Where Is My Knife?' for example, or 'Swamp Song'.
Music with a rare electricity, frontman Dale Barclay said recently: "I genuinely don’t know where the music comes from. How I play music – live or in the studio – it is what it is and I struggle to know where it comes from. There's been a lot of things written about the band, people say we're angry and things like that – but to me it's just us. There's a hell of a lot of joy in the music."
