That Time Peaness Joined Paramore Onstage

"Head banging with one of my biggest inspirations!"

Paramore were joined by Jess from Peaness during their Manchester show this week.

The American giants are completing a sold out UK headline run, and stopped past Manchester’s AO Arena on Tuesday night (April 18th). Joined by some stellar support, Paramore brought out all the stops during a frenetic, crowd-pleasing slot.

As ever, their anthem ‘Misery Business’ – now returned to the set list, with one line bleeped out – saw Paramore joined by some guests. Normally, they introduce a fan to sing the bridge, but this time the group used three – including a familiar face.

Yep, Jess from DIY heroes Peaness was on hand to belt out the lyric, fulfilling a long-held dream in the process. Hayley Williams gleefully told the crowd:

Peaness drummer Rach watched open-mouthed as events unfolded, commenting:

“Absolutely couldn’t believe my eyes when Hayley asked Jess up on stage. Was going absolutely feral in my seat uncontrollably screaming. Hayley kept talking about the band name and the drum tech ran over to give me a pair of sticks. Didn’t sleep til about 5am with adrenaline coursing through my veins. LOVED Paramore since I was about 14. MENTAL.”

She added: “Not a bad night! Thanks to all the amazing Paramore fans who are showing us love on socials. Life officially made…”聽

Jess dusted herself down and told Clash that the show “made my life”.

She says:

“We were doing what everyone else was doing, jumping and pointing, shining torches – and then Hayley clocked my orange beret (which I’d like to note I will be buried in now) and then the rest is just chaos for me. I kept flicking between thinking ‘holy shit I’m on stage with Paramore! Ahhhhhhh!’ and ‘OK girl nows your moment, let’s show ’em.’ But as I was swinging my limbs around like I was 16 again, it was like I’d never heard the song in my life. Queue me singing the wrong section followed by more flailing limbs and head banging with one of my biggest inspirations.”

“We all went on to rock out for the final section of the song and I managed to somehow blag getting the mic and telling everyone I’m in a band. The rest of the night felt like a total dream and my heart is still racing the following morning. I’d like to give a huge thank you to my best mate BC Camplight and the BBC6music gang for blagging us both guest like entry – you’ve made my life.”聽
