Terry Callier Free Gig

London Instore Announced

Soul, folk and jazz legend Terry Callier is to play a free gig in Zavvi, Oxford Street, London on June 23rd, it has been announced.

Callier cut some hit singles with Chess Records in the 60s before going on to blend folk, jazz and soul on his seminal album “The New Folk Sound Of Terry Callier”. Initially obscure, the album has gone on to be regarded as one of the pivotal moments in soul music, with Callier’s high, keening voice floating effortlessly over some highly unique instrumentation.

The singer languished in obscurity for decades until the efforts of Acid Jazz supremo Eddie Piller in the early 90s brought him to wider attention. Still an incredible live performer, Callier will play live and sign autographs at the Oxford Street store from 6pm.

Terry Carrier is set to release his new live album, recorded in London’s Jazz Cafe venue, later this year. “Welcome Home” is a superb document of the Callier live experience and is available from June 23rd.
