Fans of Taylor Swift have raised thousands for a grieving Houston family.

The icon’s Eras tour touched down in Houston last week, but tragedy occurred for one family on the route home. 20-year-old Jacob Lewis and his sister, April Bancroft were involved in a car accident, their vehicle struck by suspect Alan Hayes.

Hayes is suspected of being intoxicated, and fled the incident. Despite medical intervention, Jacob Lewis died at the scene of the accident.

A GoFundMe was set up to pay for medical and funeral costs for his family, aiming to raise around $75,000. Quickly going viral amongst Taylor Swift fans, more than $138,000 has been raised for Jacob Lewis’ family.

In a twist, many fans donated $13 each, instead of the $10 suggested – 13 is of course Taylor’s favourite number.

Another community also helped out – Jacob was a huge Pokémon fan. The page reads: “As the Pokémon Community of Houston, we are raising funds in honor of Jacob Lewis. He is the son of Steve Lewis, a prominent leader within the Houston Pokémon scene.”

Meanwhile, the Eras tour has reached Tampa, Florida. On night three of her stint in the city, Taylor Swift was joined by collaborator Aaron Dessner – also of The National – for a performance of ‘mad woman’.
