Surprise Chef’s ‘Suburban Breeze’ Is Effortlessly Cool

It's taken from their new album...

Melbourne instrumental soul outfit Surprise Chef have shared new song ‘Suburban Breeze’.

The group have signed to Big Crown Records for their incoming full length, with ‘Education & Recreation’ set to be released on October 14th.

A new label, but a familiar sound, with Surprise Chef re-tooling those vintage influences – funk, soul, Axelrod arrangements, cinematic elements – from different vantage points.

Take ‘Suburban Breeze’. A hugely atmospheric offering, the rhythm remains rooted to the spot, the rock solid workout allowing Surprise Chef to undulate around it.

Effortlessly infectious, there’s an innate sense of cool to everything Surprise Chef place their name again – it bodes well for the incoming album, for sure.

In a note, the group explain that ‘Suburban Breeze’ was written with Melbourne-based flautist Erica Tucceri in mind. “The tune was one of several we wrote during spring; we weren’t trying to represent that in particular, but I think those songs are inadvertently imbued with the feeling of spring in Coburg, where we live. My favourite part of the track is Hudson’s cold-as-ice bell part that really makes the quiet section bump.”

Tune in now.
