German techno don Superpitcher has given fans a taster from his new album.
In the past ten years Germany has emerged as one of techno’s most vital centres. Berlin has produced a generation of producers, while rival city Cologne has also given birth to a distinctive sound.
A mainstay at seminal label Kompakt, Superpitcher has helped give the imprint its trademark sound. Propulsive tempos, shimmering synths and mind expanding beats have placed the Cologne producer at the centre of minimal.
Returning with his second album, Askel Schaufler aka Superpitcher is now cited as an influence by a new generation. Across a multitude of 12s and one full length album the producer has established himself as an artist of rare emotional depth.
A famed remixer, Superpitcher recently worked with Foals, M83 and more. Now the producer is set to return under his own name with only his second full length project to date.
‘Kilimanjaro’ is due to be released later this year, and moves the Kompakt sound forwards. A recent collaboration with Michael Mayer under the name SuperMayer saw the pair experiment with different techniques, pushing each other into new areas.
Returning with his first album in almost six years, Superpitcher is keen to display what he has learned. Acoustic instruments creep into the Kompakt sound, with the Cologne producer even using vocals.
However ‘Kilimanjaro’ remains essentially a Superpitcher work. The newly integrated sounds expand on his trademark technique, with the eleven tracks containing a flurry of new ideas and old staples.
As a special preview for fans Kompakt have made one track from the album available as a free download. ‘Rabbits In A Hurry’ sits at the centre of the album, a bridging point between old and new influences.
