Sufjan Stevens To Release New Album

'The Age Of Adz' out in October

American songwriter Sufjan Stevens is set to break his silence with new album ‘The Age Of Adz’.

Sufjan Stevens has us all worried there. Attempting to continue his ‘States project’, the singer appeared to become disillusioned with songwriting. In interviews last year Stevens seemed inconsolable, lacking direction.

However the songwriter now seems to be on an even keel. Recently Sufjan Stevens released a new EP via his Bandcamp account, with ‘All Delighted People’ containing material collected from recent sessions.

Abandoning his concept albums, Sufjan Stevens has confirmed details of a new LP. ‘The Age Of Adz’ will be released on October 11th and represents the first blast of new material from the singer in some five years.

But whereas ‘Illinois’ dwelled on acoustic instruments, using guitar and bango, Sufjan Stevens new material is heavily synth oriented. The new tracks are said to recall 2001’s ‘Enjoy Your Rabbit’ which was inspired by 80s synth pop and made heavy use of drum machines and antique keyboards.

Little has been heard of the new material, although an official statement did confirm that the album will be a typically thought provoking affair. According to a spokesperson, Sufjan Stevens will tackle “love, sex, death, disease, anxiety and suicide”.

The tracklisting reveals a few more details. Opening with ‘Futile Devices’ the forthcoming album contains introspective song titles such as ‘Now That I’m Older’ and ‘I Want To Be Well’.

Alongside this Sufjan Stevens muses on ‘Vesuvius’ while ‘Get Real Get Right’ is typically hard hitting. Ending with ‘Impossible Soul’ the eleven track album ends a five year period of self-imposed silence.
