Suede Discuss New Material

Album remains a possibility

Brett Anderson has admitted that new material from Suede remains a possibility.

Suede were always a maverick spirit. The band’s Glam inspired androgyny set them apart from other British groups, especially with the laddish spirit of Britpop beginning to rear its Kappa clad head.

With albums such as ‘Dog Man Star’ and their self-titled debut Suede became critical darlings. Later finding paydirt with ‘Coming Up’ the band eventually split in 2002 after a decade of freewheeling adventure.

Reforming last year for a handful of shows, Suede’s re-union has become semi-permanent. The band headlined Latitude at the weekend, playing an emotional greatest hits show at the Suffolk event.

Speaking to BBC 6Music recently, singer Brett Anderson admitted that new material remains a possibility. “We’re gonna try and write a new Suede album, but if the magic’s not there, no one will hear it, that’s the truth,” he explained.

“I don’t want us to put a record out just because people want us to, if it’s not right then it’s not right.”

Arranging a summer of live appearances, Suede have played one off shows across Europe and beyond. Travelling out to Asia, the British group are set to perform at Summer Sonic in Japan next month (August 14th).

Since reforming last year, Suede have refused to divulge their future plans seemingly content to take things one step at a time. “I’d like to think there’s a future for the band” Brett Anderson told 6Music.

“I think realistically unless we make a new album I don’t really see that there’s much future in going round and playing the same set from the ’90s year after year,” said the singer.

Meanwhile, Brett Anderson is planning a new solo release. ‘Black Rainbows’ will be released on September 26th, preceded by forthcoming single ‘Brittle Heart’ on August 15th.
