Absent indie stars The Strokes are to begin recording their new album in January, it seems.
The Strokes emerged in a blaze of hype in 2001. Early EP ‘The Modern Age’ was used to soundtrack fashion shows in Milan, with the band still eking out a living on the streets of New York.
Releasing their debut album ‘Is This It’ to near instant stardom The Strokes became icons overnight. Following this with lengthy spells on the road and two more studio efforts, the band decided to take a break in 2006.
However once they’ve stopped, The Strokes seem to find it difficult to start again. Rumours have surrounded their new album, with rehearsal sessions apparently beginning around February this year.
Since then a number of solo projects have emerged, with The Strokes seemingly bogged down in writing new material. A recent interview with Julian Casablancas seemed to find the singer despairing at his bandmates.
However now there seems to be some progress. Bass player Nikolair Fraiture told fans via his Twitter page: “While the guys are in LA, I went to scout some studios in NYC with Ryan (Gentles – The Strokes manager) today for what looks like Jan recording!!! mood = f***ing excited.”
Fraiture, of course, is still resting from his recent participation in the New York marathon where he achieved a very respectable finish.
Now in a new interview Julian Casablancas has revealed that recording could begin in January. “We’re supposed to get back together in January but don’t hold me to that” the singer told Pitchfork.
“We’ve been trying to do it for years. I’m always available and they know that but getting together is tough.”
