With the New Yorkers taking a well deserved time out the bass player launched his own group Nickel Eye. Released their folk indebted long player ‘Time Of The Assassins’ earlier this year the band gathered plaudits.

However it seems that the star has decided to take a break from music in order to run the NEw York marathon. One of the biggest long distance running events on the planet, Nikolai Fraiture completed the race yesterday (November 1st).

The bass player was runner 57998 and finished the marathon in four hours, 23 minutes and 36 seconds. To put that into perspective there were over 100,000 entries this year placing Fraiture comfortably in the top 25%.

“I will be helping raise the funds needed to support youth fitness, goal-setting and nutrition programs throughout America and Africa while fulfilling, as a New Yorker, a life-long dream of running the marathon,” he revealed before the race began.

However the bass player will have a long way to go before beating eventual winner Meb Keflizghi, who clocked up a time of two hours, nine minutes and 15 seconds.

Meanwhile, fans remain waiting patiently for a new album by The Strokes. Recently singer Julian Casablancas revealed that new material has been recorded, but the band cannot decided which tracks should be included.
