Julian Casablancas has revealed exclusively to ClashMusic that he believes The Strokes will release a new album in January.
The Strokes caused a revolution in guitar music with their album ‘Is This It?’. Released in 2001 the album spawned countless imitations, with sales of Converse trainers exploding almost overnight.
However the band have been inactive since 2006. Indulging in all manner of side projects, singer Julian Casablancas recently broke cover with the release of his debut solo album.
An artistic success, it melted together spiky new wave guitar lines with catchy 80s style synth pop. For fans, though, there is no substitute for The Strokes with the New York dons currently working on new material.
Speaking to ClashMusic, Julian Casablancas revealed that he believed new material would emerge in the New Year. “I think January. I was told not to predict anymore. But I’m pretty sure it should be out in January” he said.
Elsewhere, the singer discussed why The Strokes had chosen to record new material in New York. Enjoying their success, some members have most to the West Coast making Los Angeles their adopted home.
“For me, there’s something about recording in New York – I was just thinking about it literally yesterday for the first time, in terms of if I could have a choice” he explained.
“Because everywhere I’ve ever recorded has kinda been like a logical choice or out of necessity. But there’s something about recording in a nice studio in New York. Maybe it’s just because it’s expensive, I dunno. Recording in LA is nice though.”
