Streets Storm Proms

Mike Skinner Plays Stunning Set

The Streets have defied illness to play an astonishing set at the BBC Electric Proms event, with Mike Skinner back with a massive choir in front of a television audience of millions.

The Streets have played a superb set at the BBC Electric Proms – but what few in the audience realized was how ill singer Mike Skinner really was. Writing on his ever entertaining tour blog, Skinner described himself as suffering from “the most warped flu cold I’ve had for years”.

A meeting with personal hero, the celebrated philosopher John Gray didn’t help matters – Skinner reported that “a 2 hour conversation with our greatest living philosopher is enough to continue the spin into a never seen world of psychological brain goo”.

However, Skinner managed to pull himself together in time for the show which was a memorable success. “It really felt like a classic Ali fight or something. Taking the pain. Going for it. Holding back. Shouting a bit. Seeing sparkles. Riding the urges to collapse. Then all of a sudden it was over. I can honestly say it was the most rewarding London show I’ve ever done, but I never want to go through that again.”

The Streets release new single ‘Heaven For The Weather’ on December 1st.
