The Maccabees’ Orlando Weeks has unveiled the first track from his Young Colossus side project.
Heady days for The Maccabees. Basking in critical acclaim and a Top Ten placing for new album ‘Given To The Wild’ the band are now looking ahead to their biggest ever headline show at the Alexandra Palace.
Alongside this, though, Orlando Weeks has been working on a side project. Working with Nic Nell, the songwriter has been partnering illustrator Robert Hunter for a storybook which comes equipped with a six song EP.
New cut ‘Sleeper’ has emerged online. The first song from Young Colossus to finds its way to the internet, you can listen to it below.

Chatting with the NME recently, Orlando Weeks explained that the material began life within The Maccabees before it became clear that the songs did not fit into where the band were heading.
“At the end of the last lot of touring, about two years ago, I started doing bits and pieces that didn’t feel like they’d fit anywhere, but I didn’t want to throw them away.”
He continued: “I was trying to write stuff with a different voice – using lots of pitch shifting so I could concentrate on the melody rather than how much I was annoyed about my own voice – and as I slowly compiled more and more of it started sounding like characters more than like me so I went with that and after a while it started manifesting itself into a shape.”
The EP is available from the Young Colossus website.
