Planningtorock is streaming her ‘The Breaks’ remix EP featuring production from Fall On Your Sword, Hannah Holland and more.
Real name Janine Rostron, Planningtorock has stolen our heart this year – fake plastic schnozzle and all. Signed to DFA, the New York label apparently gave the singer free rein to deliver any album she wanted.
Thankfully, sessions in Berlin resulted in something quite special. Released earlier this year ‘W’ was by turns challenging and beautiful, chaotic and rigidly organised.
Lead single ‘The Breaks’ was a case in point. Singing on top of a choking baritone saxophone, Planningtorock intoned some frequently disturbing lyrics but the overall effect was catharsis, not disgust.
Rightly rewarded with ‘Single Of The Week’ on this here website, Planningtorock then handed the material over to a series of guest producers. Out now on DFA, ‘The Breaks’ remix EP offers four completely different versions of the single.
Fall On Your Sword, Hannah Holland, Gavin Russom and Telephathe contribute to the EP which you can stream below…
