I/O has posted his new R&B inflected mixtape ‘Isolation’ online – listen to it below.
The past 18 months have seen R&B turned on its head. The slick, commercial side of the genre has been turned itself, with its hollow promise of instant wealth inverted to present something bankrupt.
Next in line comes New York artist I/O. Real name Ayo Olatunji, the producer is actually the grandson of Grammy Award-Winning Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji. Brought up in a musical family, Olatunji first appeared onstage as part of Drums of Passion, Olatunji’s World Music drum and dance troupe.
Adopting the I/O moniker, the producer teases out the more ethereal qualities of R&B. New mixtape ‘Isolation’ is a good starting point – from the title onwards, this is challenging material yet I/O wraps his troubles in some sugar sweet melodies.
Featuring some brand new material, ‘Isolation’ also boasts guest production from Kozza Babumba and Le’Roy Benros.
