Dent May is set to return with a new album later this year – stream recent single ‘Fun’ below.
To put it mildly, Oxford, Mississippi isn’t exactly renowned for its music scene. Very much a lone talent, Dent May was able to let his imagination develop unfettered by the shackles of scenes and genres.
Barbershop-meets-disco-meets-twee-pop-meets-psychedelia, Dent May poured his internal monologue onto ‘The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele’. Seeming to mark a breakthrough of sorts, the singer is now ready to produce a follow up.
‘Do Things’ will be released through long term home Paw Tracks on June 11th. There are little indications as to what the record will sound like, although Dent May recently described the material on Twitter as “Pet Sounds for the Smirnoff Ice generation” and “a wedding reception band on acid”.
So that’s that, then. ‘Do Things’ has been preceded by two singles, including the warped, woozy disco of ‘Fun’. Initially pressed onto just 100 cassettes, the track has the same pop heavy psychedelic spirit which runs through Gruff Rhys.
