Strandz returns with new single ‘Balance’.
The song is a move to honour his Nigerian roots, blending the sounds of Lagos with the sounds of London. Strandz’ father is Nigerian, and he’s grown up around that cultural dispora, drawing from its energy to finesse his own voice.
The latest in a flurry of singles, ‘Balance’ pivots between his own unique sound and a pivotal collaborator – Alté pioneer BOJ.
A connecting line between the UK and Nigeria, ‘Balance’ is a key stopping off point for Strandz on his journey. He comments…
‘Balance’ is an important stamp for me in my journey as a creative. Afrobeats and my Nigerian heritage have always been some of the things at the forefront of my inspiration.
I have also been learning a lot about balance in life and how important it is to find one thats unique to yourself. I’ve always had a drive for success but I also understand that other parts of my life such as love, family and peace are equally as important to me. As I continue growing into adulthood I’m constantly trying to perfect that balance and it’s been something on my mind for a while so I guess that’s what this song became about for me.
The perfect way I believe to translate this type of message to the people that need it most is through dance, when I lived in Nigeria I could see firsthand how music and dance was used as an escape from reality and why it’s such an important part of our culture. That’s why I think it’s very important to imbed these lessons on life i’m learning myself into the rhythm and chant that can also be used as an escape in the same sense.
I’ve always had a massive respect for Boj as a musician and we met a while back so the link up was inevitable really.
Tune in now.
