Stornoway will re-issue ‘Beachbomber’s Windowsill’ and ‘Tales From Terra Firma’ on vinyl.
The band reconvened this year, sharing their long-awaited album ‘Dig The Mountain’ to widespread acclaim. A packed out UK tour follow, climaxing in a sold out headline show at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town.
Now Stornoway are revisiting two gems. Debut album ‘Beachcomber’s Windowsill’ was released in 2010, immediately establishing the band in a then-current wave of UK folk-leaning indie.
Blessed with a wonderful coming-of-age atmosphere, the record was followed by potent 2013 album ‘Takes From Terra Firma’.
On January 19th fans will be able to claim brand new vinyl editions, given a fresh sonic sheen, and slightly expanded packaging. Both represses come in the original sleeve designs, with ‘Beachcomber’s Windowsill’ complemented by bonus work from designer Chris Bigg, featuring illustrations of nature motifs pulled from the themes of the album.
On ‘Tales From Terra Firma’ meanwhile, Kirini Kopcke adrons the sleeve with fragments of lyrics to create a picture for each ‘tale’.
Brian Briggs comments:
“It means a lot to us to have these first two albums reissued on vinyl. The recordings on these albums are all homemade – captured on an 8-track portable machine, and recorded in wind-battered barns, churches, camper vans and college bedrooms. They all bring back powerful memories of that exciting time in our career. We poured our hearts and souls into these albums and the songs still speak to us today, and feature heavily in our live shows. We hope you enjoy revisiting them as much as we have!”
