Stone Roses Single Re-Issues

Manchester group get lavish treatment

With their debut album now twenty years young, The Stone Roses are due to re-release their classic run of early singles.

The Stone Roses formed in Manchester in the early 80s, but by their own admission it took time for the band to find its feet musically. Yet when they did, The Stone Roses provoked such love that their debut album remains a vital touchstone for British indie music two decades after its initial release.

Containing some stunning tracks, ‘The Stone Roses’ thumbed its nose at melancholic British rock in favour of a sound informed by funk, soul and a good dose of mid 60s psychedelia. However as good as the album remains, The Stone Roses initially made their impact via a classic run of singles.

Beginning with ‘Elephant Stone’ in 1988 the band barely put a foot wrong until a legal battle put their career on ice just two years later. In between then, however, the group revolutionised British rock music.

Now fans can re-live that glorious run of singles again. Starting with ‘Elephant Stone’ on July 6th, the group are to re-release each one of those peerless singles.

A collectable numbered box will be sold alongside copies of ‘Elephant Stone’, which will contain copies of John Squire’s art prints and space for the following four singles. A must have for collectors, the re-issued singles come complete with the original B-sides, many of which are now classics in their own right.

Sadly, after their enforced lay off the band never regained their initial zest. Follow up album ‘The Second Coming’ was buried under the weight of its own bombast, despite spawning several classic singles in its own right.

The group staggered on, losing drummer Reni before guitarist John Squire quit in 1995. The Stone Roses finally imploded after a disastrous performance at Reading festival, but leave behind them a stunning legacy.

The Stone Roses will re-issue the following singles:

July 6th
Elephant Stone

July 13th
Made Of Stone

July 20th
She Bangs The Drums

July 27th
Fools Good

August 3rd
One Love
