Steve Lacy has launched his own Fender Stratocaster.
The American artist has always used the guitar as his primary instrument, as the main lens for his musicality. A key aspect within alt-R&B force The Internet, his solo album ‘Gemini Rights’ saw Steve Lacy offering fans an undiluted vision of himself.
Lead single ‘Bad Habits’ became one of 2022’s perennial ear-worms, a single that took the musician to the upper echelons of the charts. Now he’s been offered a unique accolade – working with Fender on a new instrument.
Well, not quite ‘new’ – but certainly a fresh take on a classic design. Steve Lacy has been entrusted with freshening up the Fender Stratocaster, the guitar used by everyone from Buddy Holly to Jimi Hendrix and beyond, responding to the task with typical flair.
In Steve’s eyes, it’s a “full circle moment”. Commenting on the announce, he looks back to the initial experiences with the guitar, and how it allowed his musicality to flower.
This guitar means so much to me. It’s a full circle moment. My first guitar was a Squier strat. It was the box set that came with an amp, case, quarter inch-the whole nine. Now I have my very own Fender Stratocaster guitar.
The People Pleaser Strat, in a nutshell, is my dream guitar as a kid when I first started playing and my dream guitar as the guitarist I am today. An ode to the old classic design that Fender is known for with all the new specs that make a guitar feel like home. I hope everyone gets to experience the feeling of this guitar. I’m excited to see what people make with it.
