Stereophonics’ Stuart Cable Death Verdict

Drummer choked to death

Former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable died after choking to death on his own vomit.

A much loved figure on the Welsh rock scene, Stuart Cable’s death sparked a wave of mourning. The jovial sticksman was a founding member of Stereophonics, helping to push the band to stardom.

Exiting after four albums, Stuart Cable cited personal differences with frontman Kelly Jones. However the pair soon patched things up, and remained firm friends with the drummer starting his own group.

Sadly, Stuart Cable was found dead at his cottage in Aberdare this summer. Drinking with friends in the local pub, the drummer was found dead on the kitchen floor by his girlfriend Rachel Jones.

Fans mourned the drummer, with an inquest now revealing its findings. Reporting in the rocker’s home town of Aberdare yesterday (October 19th) the inquest revealed that Stuart Cable choked on his own vomit.

The inquest revealed that Stuart Cable began drinking with his former wife and son on June 4th. Hosting his radio show the following evening, the drummer returned to the local pub to meet friends.

Returning home, Stuart Cable drank with his friend Simon Collier until the wee, small hours. Later returning to the same pub, the drummer eventually came home with a Chinese takeaway and more alcohol.

“Stuart was extremely drunk but got a bottle of vodka out of the fridge and continued drinking it neat,” Detective Sergeant Richey Jones told the inquest, before adding: “He also drank Jack Daniels. He fell asleep on the sofa and Rachel later went to wake him by tapping his head and lifting his eyes.”

Tragically, the drummer had already passed away. BBC News reports that ambulance crews fought to save the drummer, but Stuart Cable was already beyond medical assistance.

At Stuart Cable’s funeral the AC/DC track ‘Highway To Hell’ was played – sung by Australian Bon Scott, who died in a similar fashion.
