Stephen Malkmus has asked fans to help him craft a radio friendly version of new single ‘Senator’.
A deeply acerbic songwriting, the blunt wit of Stephen Malkmus has occasionally crossed over into the obscene. Stepping aside from the Pavement re-union, sessions with The Jicks last year yielded some fantastic material.
Lead single ‘Senator’ is a case in point. All sloping riffs and pounding drums, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks even through in the line: “I know what the senator wants – what the senator wants is a blowjob.”
At which point radio sets across the globe will be turned off. Requiring a radio friendly version, the band have decided to get fans involved via an inventive new competition.
All you need to do is find a replacement for the word ‘blowjob’ at the end of the sentence. The winning entry will be recorded by the band and released as the version for for radio stations around the world.
As a special bonus, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks will even press up one copy (and one copy only) of the radio friendly version. A twin sided seven inch, the single will contain the uncensored version alongside the new recording.
