New York indie rockers Stellastarr are due to release their forthcoming album ‘Civilized’ on their own label.
Stellastarr were formed in 2000 by a bunch of close friends, all of them renegade art students and musicians keen to do something different. After releasing a series of homemade EPs the band caught the attention of record industry types, who pulled up outside Stellstarr’s crib clutching a tasty contract.
Their celebrated self-titled debut album followed in 2003 spawning singles such as ‘Jenny’ and ‘My Coco’. Becoming indie dancefloor favourites, the band took off round the UK bringing their savage live show to the nation’s unsuspecting toilet venues.
The band’s second album ‘Harmonies For The Haunted’ followed in 2006 but since then Stellastarr have been dogged by label problems. Eventually securing their release from Sony, the group are now recording their third album ‘Civilize’ which is scheduled for released later this year.
According to a statement Stellastarr gave to NME the group recorded the album at Mission Sound studio in Brooklyn with Tim O’Heir, who produced their 2003 eponymous debut.
The album will be released on their new imprint Bloated Wife Records, named after the first song they ever wrote.
Stellastar are set to release ‘Civilize’ on July 7th in the United States, with no set release date for the UK. Tracklisting is as follows:
‘Robot’
‘Freak Out’
‘Tokyo Sky’
‘Numbers’
‘Graffiti Eyes’
‘Prom Zombie’
‘Warchild’
‘The People’
