Squire Artwork Auction

Own the 'War Child' cover

Former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire is set to auction the original artwork for the new War Child album ‘Heroes’.

John Squire has a long association with the charity War Child. The organisation’s original all-star album ‘Help’ contained a – rather superfluous – remix of a Stone Roses track, while Squire also designed the cover.

The one time guitarist returned to design the cover for this year’s ‘Heroes’ album. The record featured some of music’s biggest names choosing new artists to cover their tracks.

As a result we have Beck covering Dylan and TV On The Radio reworking David Bowie. The album was released earlier this year on all formats, with all profits going to War Child.

Squire’s dedication to his art has seen the guitarist forego his musical career. Recent rumours of a Stone Roses reunion were scotched by the musician, who is set to open exhibitions across the world.

The auction takes place on internet site eBay, and will feature both the original image and three signs prints made by the artist.

Speaking to NME Squire said “I did the first two War Child albums, so why not make it a hat trick? They told me Bowie and the Ramones might be involved, so the first two things I offered them were based on lyrics.”

“They rejected those, I think over the last few years I’ve forgotten how to make record sleeves! So this is the final offering, it’s a bit literal now. I did some exhaustive research, found some psycho website full of guns.”
