Bruce Springsteen has joined Barack Obama in the final week of campaigning for the US presidential election, giving a passionate speech in the swing state of Ohio.
The Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is currently ahead in the polls, but his lead remains slim. Springsteen has toured relentlessly in support of the politician, and gave a wonderful performance in Ohio before an audience of 80,000 people.
The set included a rendition of Woody Guthrie’s ‘This Land Is Your Land’ – considered by many to be the USA’s alternative national anthem. Sprinsteen told the crowd “so I don’t know about you, but I want my country back, I want my dream back, I want my America back.”
“Our social contract has been shredded. We’re going to need all the angels we can get. Senator Obama’s efforts to build a house big enough for all our dreams.”
Obama then took the stage and paid tribute to The Boss, who he described a one of “a handful of people who enter into your lives through their music and tell the American people’s story.”
Aw, shucks!
