Spiritualized singer Jason Pierce has denied that he is set to reform his former group Spacemen 3.
Hailing from Rugby, Spacemen 3 have a good claim to be one of the most influential groups of their generation. Mixing The Stooges with Albert Ayler, the band’s lysergic brand of space rock has influenced everyone from Oasis to The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
Splitting in 1991, guitarist Jason Pierce emerged under the new name of Spiritualized. Becoming hugely respected in their own right, the band’s near orchestral material is a gradual evolution from the Spacemen 3 output.
However the spectre of Pierce’s former group remains, with the singer revealing in a new interview that he had been asked to reform Spacemen 3 for a potential show at All Tomorrows Parties.
Speaking to The Sun, Jason Pierce revealed that he “wasn’t interested” in pursuing the offer due to ongoing bad relations between himself and co-founder Peter Kember aka Sonic Boom. “The split was so acrimonious and my view of him hasn’t changed,” Pierce explained, adding: “No, I’ve not mellowed about him.”
Meanwhile, Spiritualized have recently released a box set version of their album ‘Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space’. Expanded to include demos, studio offcuts and more the release demonstrates some of the working process behind the seminal album.

Currently working on new material, Jason Pierce revealed that he is hopeful about the new album. “We’re recording at the moment. I want to say it will be out next year but I don’t know yet. But it sounds great, really great.”
