Spike Jonze On Kanye West Film

Video not finished, it seems

Acclaimed director Spike Jonze has spoken about ‘We Were Once A Fairytale’ – his new film with hip hop star Kanye West.

When it comes to the internet, it’s safe to say that Kanye West is a bit trigger happy. The hip hop star regularly posts tracks that have caught his attention, with the rapper using his blog to leak new material from Peter, Bjorn and John.

Recently, however, the hip hop star stunned fans by posting a new film crafted in co-operation with Spike Jonze. Having recently completed his new feature film ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ the director teamed up with the rap icon for a very special project.

Titled ‘We Were Once A Fairytale’ the film is by turns bizarre and moving. Making a huge amount of sense in the post-Taylor Swift incident world of showbiz, the video became a massive success after Kanye West posted it on his blog.

However soon after this the rapper removed it from the site, giving no explanation for its exclusion.

Speaking to the New York Times director Spike Jonze claims the film simply wasn’t finished. “I think he was like, ‘Oh, it’s out. I’ll link to it’,” Jonze said.

“This is the first time it’s happened to me and it is a weird feeling, like, ‘Wait a second – I wasn’t ready to put that out!'” he added.

Spike Jonze perhaps should have been prepared to West’s wayward nature – the director worked on the hip hop star’s ‘Flashing Lights’ video.

The director claimed he was uncomfortable with the leak, which has spread across many other sites to become an internet sensation.

The full 14 minute version of ‘We Were Once A Fairytale’ is due to be released via iTunes on October 27th.
