Soul Jazz Outline ‘Studio One Dancehall’ Compilation

It's out now...

Jamaican musicians were amongst the first to utilise the impact of an MC.

Almost from the beginning of the soundsystem era, tracks were continually re-dubbed, with MC's toasting over the instrumentals.

Growing into an art form, dancehall – as such MC heavy recordings would become known – is now a worldwide phenomenon.

Soul Jazz have pieced together a new compilation focussing on the roots of dancehall. 'Studio One Dancehall' is centred on Coxonne Dodd's studio, featuring tracks from icons such as Sugar Minott and Lone Ranger, alongside rather more obscure – but no less valid – figures such as Ernest Wilson.

Out now on digital and CD formats, 'Studio One Dancehall' is set to gain a full vinyl release later this month.
