Legendary New York group Sonic Youth have been forced to re-arrange some upcoming tour dates after guitarist Lee Ranaldo fractured his wrist.
Sonic Youth has never been an average rock ‘n’ roll band. Emerging from the milieu that dominated No Wave era New York, the group began introducing elements of classic rock into that sprawling template.
After releasing the classic double album ‘Daydream Nation’ Sonic Youth became one of the first groups from the United States underground to sign with a major label, being snapped up by Geffen.
After almost fifteen years releasing some of the most bizarre material to go under the Geffen name Sonic Youth recently returned to their independent roots. Signing a contract with Matador the band released their new album ‘The Eternal’ earlier this year.
A stunning return to form, it has lead to a number of tour dates. Sonic Youth recently returned to London to blow some minds – click HERE to read our report!
However nights like that will be few and far between over the next month as guitarist Lee Ranaldo recovers from a broken wrist. Falling badly whilst playing tennis the musician has been told to rest, leading to a number of tour dates being re-scheduled.
As a result Sonic Youth has cancelled shows in Santa Barbara (September 26th) and Austin City Limits (October 4th).
