Songhoy Blues Cherish Their Elders On ‘Gara’

A beautiful piece of music...

Songhoy Blues have shared new song ‘Gara’.

The Malian band are a force to be reckoned with, matching their desert blues sound to socially aware lyricism. A crucial live act, Songhoy Blues blend incredible musicianship with a real sense of purpose, making each set feel important.

New album ‘Héritage’ lands on January 17th via Transgressive Records, and the latest preview is online now.

‘Gara’ is a beautiful piece of music, the mesh of guitars lifting the vocals to a higher plain. A work of real unity, the lyrics invite the listener to reflect on inter-generational experiences, and the respect we should afford our elders.

Songhoy Blues comment…

Gara means “blessing” in the Songhoy language. This song is an ode to the guidance and blessings of the elders in society – particularly one’s parents. There is an African adage, which says “A ripe fruit never rots at the top” and so in this song we encourage younger generations to do good and seek blessing from their elders. We hope you enjoy the song!

Tune in now.
