SongFest Launches In Brick Lane

Showcase event planned

Brand new three day showcase event SongFest is set to launch in Brick Lane next week.

The growth of the internet has made it easier than ever to release new music, but the flood of material has made it even more difficult to get noticed. Enter SongFest, a new project designed to give budding songwriters their first entry into the industry.

Hosted by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) the event takes control of Brick Lane club The Brickhouse. A lavish venue, a series of experts will hold court over three days focussing on a variety of skills.

Opening on October 25th, the Brick Lane event aims to be an informal introduction into the music industry. Focussed at songwriters, SongFest mixes panels discussing legal aspects to performances from new talent.

Priced at £10 per day, SongFest is easily accessible. Music seminars allow you to ask whatever you need to ask, while a ‘speed dating’ service allows like minded songwriters to hook up.

Amongst the experts getting involved in SongFest are a crack team of songwriters. Snow Patrol collaborator Iain Archer was previously a recipient of an Ivor Novello award, after the success of ‘Final Straw’.

Meanwhile, industry veterans such as Rob Davis and Sacha Skarbek are due to take part, having chalked up countless hits and millions of sale returns between them. Having worked with everyone from Duffy to Sir Paul McCartney these two have quite simply been there and done that.

Lucy Weston from BASCA, said “SongFest is a new songwriting festival intended to encourage new songwriting talent and celebrate the craft of songwriting. BASCA believes that the creation of the song is the cornerstone of the UK music industry and we hope this event will encourage up-and-coming songwriters to develop their skills and pursue their passion for music and add to the UK’s illustrious history of making amazing music.”

SongFest runs between October 25th – 27th.
