Solpara Announces Debut Album ‘Melancholy Sabotage’

Lebanese-American live act, DJ and producer Solpara today announces his debut album ‘Melancholy Sabotage’, out June 21st via Nicolás Jaar‘s label Other People.

‘Melancholy Sabotage’ was recorded during lockdown, coming to fruition whilst Solpara was living alone in a Brooklyn loft. Free from obligations, Solpara was inspired by mundane rituals, with more complex inspiration derived from participation in Black Lives Matter protests, and the 2020 Beirut Port explosion which affected his extended family members in Lebanon.

‘Melancholy Sabotage’ traverses post-punk, trip-hop, and ambient genres, and thematically focuses on states of dreamy euphoria and transcendence while simultaneously acknowledging the sources of retention, viewed from above. “The melancholy is going and going. It’s both beautiful and painful and you can get engulfed by it, but you can sabotage it,” he muses on the album’s title.

Listen to lead single ‘Measures’, a sonic manifestation of the album’s exploration of stifled feelings, and the resistance and liberation from these feelings after the initial storm has passed.
