Formed from the ashes of Simian, cult DJ team Simian Mobile Disco are set to return with their second album.
Simian are perhaps the most successful, yet anonymous group to emerge from Britain in some time. The group released their two albums to moderate acclaim before splitting in 2005. However the band’s material founds its way into the hands of French electro duo Justice who fell in love with ‘Never Be Alone’.
Remixing the track into the pulsating ‘We Are Your Friends’ Simian found a new lease of life. Emerging as Simian Mobile Disco, the new group centred on James Ford and James Shaw and featured a furious electro edge.
Debut album ‘Attack Sustain Decay Release’ was released in 2007 and became a touchstone for the indie-dance crossover. James Ford became the producer du jour, working with Klaxons on their Mercury award winning debut album.
Since their debut album was released, Simian Mobile Disco have toured almost non-stop notably hitting the Clash Revue and the closing ceremony of Hinterland. However the duo have found time to work on their new album which has been titled ‘Temporary Pleasure’.
A return to their electro rockin’ sound, the new record will be released through the duo’s long time home of Wichita in the summer. As usual, Simian Mobile Disco have managed to grab hold of some stunning guest stars including Beth Ditto of The Gossip and Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals.
Also due to appear on the album is electronic-soul guru Jamie Lidell and Hot Chip singer Alexis Taylor. Simian Mobile Disco have worked extensively with designer Kate Moross in the past, and Moross has been confirmed as providing the album artwork and directing the video to the group’s forthcoming single.
Simian Mobile Disco will release their comeback single ‘Audacity Of Hope’ – featuring guest vocals from Chris Keating – on August 3rd. The group will release their new album ‘Temporary Pleasure’ on August 17th.
