Smashing Pumpkins Audition Drummers

Potential candidates sought

Grunge goth legends Smashing Pumpkins are set to replace former drummer Jimmy Chamberlain – and you could be the next person in the drum stool!

Formed by Billy Corgan in the late 80s, Smashing Pumpkins blended the emerging grunge sound with ethereal goth-type noises. The resulting brew was spruced up by Corgan’s pop touch, and went on to make the band one of America’s biggest throughout the 90s.

However it was not to last. Drifting in electronica, the band called it quits in 2000 with the musicians going on to other projects. Corgan and drummer Chamberlain formed Zwan, who released one album before the call of Smashing Pumpkins became too great.

The band reformed in 2005 to acclaim from their fans, however a disastrous tour last year may have seen them sour relations with some. Smashing Pumpkins played a number of North American dates, foregoing established material for extended noise jams. At some shows, the band were heckled with audience members walking out.

It has only got work for Corgan & Co. with long time drummer Jimmy Chamberlain walking out, ending a musical partnership that stretches over two decades.

Billy Corgan has announced that the band will be holding open auditions next Friday (April 10th) to replace him. Held in Los Angeles, if you fancy having a go then send background information, photos and performance web links to: [email protected].

Billy Corgan is now the band’s solo surviving original member, but he has recently stated that he will continue to record under the name Smashing Pumpkins.
