Twee-some two-some Slow Club have unveiled details of their new single ‘Trophy Room’ and a large September tour.
Formed by two friends named Charles and Rebecca, Slow Club’s DIY take on the pop song has seen them gather a cult following. With Rebecca’s jaunty rockabilly drums and Charles’ folk picking the duo seem to have a telepathic ability to judge each other’s action.
When playing live the duo shift tempos with remarkable ease, a musical chase where no one wins except the audience. Snapped up by Moshi Moshi Slow Club’s early singles such as ‘Because We’re Dead’ won critical acclaim.
Touring heavily, the band sketched out their debut album in their breaks from the road. Becoming ever more adept, Rebecca managed to buy herself a drum kit along the way – previously she used a kitchen chair.
Debut album ‘Yeah So’ was a delight. Released back in July is marked Charles and Rebecca out as mature songwriters, who joyful yelp disguised some heart-renching tales. New single ‘Trophy Room’ was a stand out on the record, and is now set to be given a life of its own.
Released on September 28th, the track was apparently inspired by Charles’ encounter with a compulsive liar. Opening with some deft folk-influenced finger picking it later picks up into a two-way race to the finish.
The band have confirmed details of their biggest show to date. Taking over London’s Scala venue Slow Club are set for a night to remember. The duo will be fresh from Moshi Moshi’s American assault, in which they have been enjoying the company of Casiokids and The Wave Pictures.
