Chicago duo Sleeper’s Bell have shared new song ‘Corner’.
The duo – lyricist/vocalist Blaine Teppema and guitarist Evan Green – started making music a few years back, delicate yet intense constructions that blurred the lines between indie and folk. Their EP ‘Umarell’ is a cult object, and it’s now receiving a limited but thorough re-issue via Fire Talk Records‘ new imprint, Angel Tapes.
Available on snazzy lilac cassette, bonus cuts on the EP include ‘Corner’, which acts as a fine introduction to the group as a whole.
Slow-paced, the opaque arrangement seems to let the wind whistle through it, the intimate recording capturing the side of fingers on guitar frets. Blaine Teppema is a librarian during the day, and her word play moves with incredible incision.
“Why can’t men admit they’re nervous?” she opens, “or scared or full of shame? ‘Cus then it all just comes out like anger, and I think I’m the one to blame.”
Beautifully affecting, ‘Corner’ spotlights the subtle yet profound artistry that makes Sleeper’s Bell so highly regarded. Tune in now.
