Andrew Stockdale duet recorded

Guns N Roses icon Slash has been recording new material with Australian hard rockers Wolfmother.

Wolfmother are a blast from the past. With their long hair and loose riffs the band recall the glory days of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and other hard rock icons.

Led by unstoppable singer Andrew Stockdale, it seems that the band have been working with a genuine rock icon. In a new interview Stockdale confirms that he has been recording with none other than former Guns N Roses guitar mangler Slash.

"At the start of the year Slash contacted my manager and asked if I was interested in singing on his record," the afro clad singer revealed to BBC Newsbeat.

The pair share some similarities, with Wolfmother paying tribute to the rock styles that fired the young Slash. Andrew Stockdale continued: "Maybe because I've got that old-school delivery it matches what he was trying to do. He (Slash) is an iconic figure in rock'n'roll history. I thought, 'It's an honour'."

Slash has been working on the solo album for some time. Titled 'Slash & Friends' the record is due for release early next year and contains a lengthy list of collaborators.

Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl has been recording with Slash, while the album will also contain appearances from the likes of Iggy Pop, Jason Bonham, Nick Oliveri and more.

On a more pop tip, Slash has also been working with Fergie and Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine. With Eric Valentine on production duties the new album will no doubt be another fascinating chapter in the career of a rock icon.

Slash is set to release 'Slash & Friends' next year.
