Iconic Guns N Roses guitarist Slash has revealed that he has completed four tracks for his forthcoming solo album.
Born plain Saul Hudson, Slash is one of the most renowned rock musicians of his generation. Combining a knowledge of traditional rock styles with flamenco, Slash crafted a completely distinctive style which influenced a huge number of guitar players.
Guns N Roses’ biggest hit ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ is driven by a Slash riff and climaxes in an epic (and much imitated) solo. Sadly, relations between Slash and lead singer Axl Rose became strained and the guitarist left the band in 1995.
Subsequent projects would include Slash’s Snakepit and Velvet Revolver. However it was the release of Guns N Roses long awaited new album ‘Chinese Democracy’ that has flung Slash back into the public consciousness.
Axl Rose clearly holds a grudge against the guitarist, while Dr Pepper’s infamous offer to give everyone in America a free can on the album’s release excluded Slash and fellow guitarist Buckethead.
For his forthcoming solo album Slash has recruited former Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney and former Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh Freese, while Eric Valentine is producing. A number of guest singers are set to appear on the album, but Slash has yet to reveal who these will be.
“We’ve nailed four killer tracks with four amazing vocals so far,” he wrote on his MySpace blog. “Everybody who has contributed vocals so far have been flawless and the rhythm section, Josh and Chris, are priceless.’
“All in all this last couple of weeks have been a hell a lot of fun and we’re just getting started. It’s definitely going to be a kick ass record, if I do say so myself.”
Slash is set to release his solo album later this year.
