Right now Skepta has the world at his feet.
The grime rapper is on the verging of breaking big in the States, and his upcoming album is certain to underline his imposing profile.
Speaking to Beats1, Skepta spoke freely about working with American kingpin Pharrell on new material.
"In this music industry and in the game the difference with artists you get some people who really love music and some do this for money or fame. Pharrell loves music… I know that whatever financial sustain he's in it won’t change his music will always be sick."
"When I was in the studio with, cause I love music as well, when I’m with him it's like I'm working with someone that I’ve known all my life. And we’re both there to make the sickest track that we can."
"Pharrell’s blessed me – it’s sick to have him on there, his sound is so different," he said. "Having Pharrell to bless my album with this sound we made maybe now when you hear my beats maybe you can see the freeness of his music that's what we’re doing as well.”
Skepta also spoke about his Drake hook up, and the potential partnership between OVO Sound and London-based BBK. “We’re supposed to be doing something with his album," he explains, referring to Drake's upcoming 'Views From The 6' release. "I’ve learnt in the past trying to rush fake music, trying to act like you two are friends or trying to over force it online just like eradicate all that stuff and just do greatness as friends."
"We wanna do bigger things than just our crew. Even with the Top Boy series and Ashley Waters. Them two have been working closely and I’ve been making sure on the creative direction wave with Drake about the series just making greatness with it. The whole style what's going on in London, the sound. Everything about it is real, its an actual thing that actually happened and it deserves to be on the turner. It’s time."
