Six-String Squarepusher Ventures North

And you can join him

Days before Sound City gets underway, one of the UK’s foremost musical adventurers will head up to Merseyside to unveil his latest project.

Tom Jenkinson, AKA Squarepusher, is feted by experimental fans for his “headfuck” beats, but among musos he’s better known as a prodigiously talented bass guitarist. The Essex-based producer doesn’t venture out of his studio too often, but appears at the Liverpool Philharmonic on May 24th with a show based around, well, bass. He’ll be utilising his trademark six-string at this show, while eclectic accompaniment comes from Pierre Bastien, a “multi-instrumentalist and mechanical genius”.

You might think an evening of bass would be a bit boring, but Jenkinson is hardly Bill Wyman. Herbie Hancock, Brian Eno and Bootsy Collins are all fans of his dextrous digits, while Flea calls him as “the best electric bass player on Earth.”
