Simian Mobile Disco Talk Techno

Next album will be heavier, they claim

Simian Mobile Disco have spoken about their next album, claiming it will be influenced by heavy techno.

Emerging from an indie rock group, Simian Mobile Disco have always been viewed with suspicion by some dance figures. With their crossover sound and pulsating live show, however, the duo have found no shortage of fans.

Enticed into crafting a new mix in honour of New York’s Fixed night, Simian Mobile Disco have found themselves drawn away from their trademark playful electro sound.

Finding inspiration in heavy techno, Simian Mobile Disco have allowed these influences to creep into their productions. Released on their own Delicacies label, these new productions point the way to a potential new sound.

Speaking to Beat Portal the duo explained that Delicacies is a testing ground for new ideas. “We are starting to work on a new SMD album as we speak but we plan to keep Delicacies ticking over as an outlet for the darker clubbier side of what we do” they explained.

“We always try to make our albums something you would want to listen to at home rather than at 6am in a darkened club. Having said that, I do think our next album will be influenced by the Delicacies stuff we have been making recently.”

The band’s live show has taken them around the world, exposing them to new music. Gaining experience of a club environment has altered how Simian Mobile Disco perceive themselves, and their music.

“We are consciously trying to change how people perceive us at the moment, mainly because our tastes have changed quite drastically as we’ve been exposed to more and more club music” they claimed.

“It may take some fans of our early stuff a while to get their heads around our new stuff but in general, the reaction has been really positive.”

‘Simian Mobile Disco Is Fixed’ is due to be released on October 12th.
