Electro production team Simian Mobile Disco are to launch their new record label Delicacies next month.
Simian Mobile Disco are a dance phenomenon. Formed initially as a side project, the duo’s mixture of indie, electro and more have turned them into chart stars and some of the most revered producers around.
Working with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons and more James Ford and Jas Shaw are now set to launch their own label. A vehicle for their own and other’s productions Delicacies will open in April.
The label will coincide with a new club night, also called Delicacies. Launching in London’s matter venue, Simian Mobile Disco were joined by a varied cast including Green Velvet, DJ Pierre, Joker and others.
Speaking to Resident Advisor, Simian Mobile Disco producer Jas Shaw revealed that the impetus for the new label came from their latest album ‘Temporary Pleasure’.
“After finishing the last record we were both still full of ideas for tracks and wanted to spend more time in the studio doing more experimental stuff” he explained.
“Also, we have been DJing a lot and the last record was more of a home listening thing, not really the kind of stuff we play when we DJ. So it’s really just an excuse for us to book time off touring to mess around in the studio.”
“The idea of releasing the tracks quickly and with little promo or fuss was just to give us short deadlines to finish things. It’s really nice to make a few tunes in the week and then play them out that weekend and then put them out straight away.”
Jas Shaw also claimed that the releases on Delicacies will be disgusting. “Delicacies are usually quite disgusting things that are enjoyed by a small group of people. Lots of the music that we listen to fits this description and this label is a forum for us to put out some disgusting music for the few that like that sort of thing.”
Delicacies will launch in April.
