Silent Servant Has Died

A sad loss to electronic music...

Hugely respected techno producer Silent Servant has died.

The news was confirmed by his management team, who sent an email to Resident Advisor. The cause of death had not been disclosed at time of writing.

The LA based producer was a vastly influential name within techno, and broader left-field currents in club culture. An NTS mainstay, his monthly show has been essential listening for some time now, platforming new talent and spotlighting some of his personal favourites.

Active for more than 30 years, Silent Servant released on some key imprints, including Hospital Records and BITE.

While his work has numerous highlights, Silent Servant is perhaps best known for comprising one-third of techno juggernaut Sandwell District, alongside Regis and Female.

More recently, Silent Servant has run the Jealous God imprint alongside Regis and James Ruskin. The producer’s latest release was titled ‘In Memorium’, and landed at the end of 2023.

The news is breaking, but already tributes are being paid. Daniel Avery writes on Twitter / x:

I once asked Silent Servant what a record was as he was playing a reliably beautiful set. The next time I saw Juan he had bought me my own copy of the vinyl. An amazing artist and incredibly gentle guy. RIP to a true one
