Currently sidelined with illness Depeche Mode have received some much needed good news after it was revealed that Sigur Ros are to remix their new single.
Depeche Mode released their new album ‘Sounds Of The Universe’ recently, another solid instalment in a back catalogue littered with classics. Sure, they might often get the credit they deserve but with a career that has influenced everyone from the Belleville Three to electroclash alumni it must be worth something.
The band launched their latest world tour in Tel Aviv, Israel recently. However almost immediately Depeche Mode ran into problems having to cancel a show in Athens just moments before they were due to go on stage.
Singer Dave Gahan came down with a mystery illness, leading to more shows being postponed as he struggled with his health. The band are scheduled to play a show in London’s O2 Arena next week, with their loyal army of fans keeping their fingers crossed.
Those fingers will be uncrossing themselves to purchase the group’s new single, though. The elegiac ballad ‘Peace’ is scheduled for release soon, and according to a post on the Sigur Ros website the Icelandic group’s Jon Þor “Jónsi” Birgisson has provided a remix for the flipside.
Birgisson has chosen to remix the track ‘Come Back’ another highlight from ‘Sounds Of The Universe’. MGMT, meanwhile, have also provided a remix for the single with the Brooklyn space cadets tackling ‘Fragile Tension’.
The Sigur Ros frontman is set to release an album with his side project Riceboy Sleeps. Produced in conjunction with his long term partner Alex Somers, the band’s self titled debut album due to be released on July 20th.
Depeche Mode are set to release their new single ‘Peace’ later this summer.
