Shogun Is Legitimising Scottish Grime

New cut 'Vulcan' is blowing up...

Scotland's hip-hop scene has deep roots, with any number of producers and MCs helping to create a highly distinct and wholly independent sound.

The country's grime scene, though, has often suffered in comparison. Sure, there's plenty of talented people involved in the sound, but grime's highly localised sense of place makes it difficult even for artists in Wolverhampton and Sheffield to be heard about London's glare.

Paisley's Shogun, though, is staking a claim. The MC has placed a few cuts online, with buzz gently building around his name – but 'Vulcan' has completely smashed it.

With more 125,000 streams on YouTube it's clearly not a regional hype, it's the real deal. Sure, some will contend that grime will always be a London sound but the sheer intensity of Shogun's delivery proves that the sound is impacting on lives nationwide.
