Shivani Day Shares Debut Single ‘Rhetoric’

For fans of Amaarae, BODUR and FKA twigs....

Leicester-born, London-based artist Shivani Day has unveiled her debut single ‘Rhetoric’ via FAMM, the buzzy imprint home to Jorja Smith and ENNY.

Shivani came up as a DJ during lockdown, performing countless sets including a Boiler Room in her then-native Nottingham, before transitioning to lyrical music under the tutelage of RnB singer-songwriter Shaé Universe. Citing Sade, Aaliyah, Massive Attack and Grace Jones as her artistic influences, Shivani’s debut release is an East meets West amalgam; a trip-hop infused, Desi-inspired ode to diasporic identity.

‘Rhetoric’, co-produced with close collaborator Minas, features roving lines flitting between English and South Asian melisma, an avowal of Shivani’s core ethos predicated around “power, autonomy and introspective thoughts.”
